United state of America the sole world power with economic and culture spreading around every corner of the globe. I made a critical examination before writing this article and all I was waiting for was the public opinion on the issue of gun control but finally I was not surprise at all to see that only 54 percent of Americans favor gun control.
I told my American friends here in China that the same fear I face thinking about seen what Afghanistan look like is the same I have thinking of accepting invitations from my mates from the university to visit the US but they almost fight me.
Let us think about it, gun related killings in the US that get publicity around the world from October till today is almost the same as what we have got from Afghanistan despite the fact that Afghanistan is a nation in crises.
After the deadly shooting at the elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, I watched and try to take note of feelings of Americans at different spectrum and as usual opinions are divided. The only strange thing that gave me a sleepless night and nightmare was Mr. LaPierre the executive vise president of the NRA proposing more guns in the hands of good guys to protect schools.
We can easily say the gentle man is shielding his wallet as we have all accepted that “he who feeds the piper dictate the tune” but there is another school of taught called “common sense” If arm guards are available to protect the schools what about the hotels, streets, cinemas, mosque, churches, synagogues, buses and other open environments?
This is the problem I face daily with United State as a developed country. How can you have Harvard, Yale, Virginia tech and other great universities out there and yet public educations are low? How can 4 million NRA members with their billions dominate the public and hold them hostage in the name of protection? I really do not get it.
These are issues concerning 20 innocent kids and their teachers. State department easily issue warning to Americans on traveling to Nigeria, Kenya, Pakistan and many other countries around the world but facing veneration from NRA at home.
Some are even blaming games but they cannot get a passport and travel out of the US to see how kids are playing games around the world. I see kids here in China playing games daily and at the same time doing well at school.
Hope President Obama will be able go far in cleaning the US of guns that are giving his street the same look as Kabul and hope both left and right will be able to work together so that in few months time other families will not be celebrating Easter in moaning.
May the Lord give all the families and well wishers the fortitude to bear the lost and may the joy of the season give peace to the world.
